Three years ago, I rediscovered gardening. As I dug my fingers into the soil, digging, turning, and working it, I discovered the secret that many other famous and not-so-famous gardeners already knew. I discovered that gardening is addictive, freeing, inspiring, exasperating, exciting, and disappointing, all at once. I found that gardening is creative, inventive, inspirational, and innovative. Gardening mimics the same creative process that I engage in as I write, cook, create, design, and photograph. The more time I spend in the garden, the more aware I am of how liberating and freeing gardening is and how gardening is a metaphor for my life. My garden is a place of refuge, to combat stress, lose myself in daydreams, wrestle with life’s problems, and simply let go and dream.
The Writer’s Garden is a place where all of my interests collide and combine to create a space as colorful, diverse, and vivid as the gardens in my own yard.
